What to Do When Your Best-Selling Product Goes Out of Stock

Globewick Team Sep 23, 2026 1 min read

A stockout on a best-selling product doesn't have to mean simply lost revenue and frustrated customers — how it's handled can actually preserve, or even build, customer trust.

Communicate proactively, not reactively

Customers are far more forgiving of a stockout when they're told about it clearly and given a realistic restock timeline, rather than discovering it only after attempting to check out.

Capture demand for the restock

A simple 'notify me' waitlist turns a stockout into a list of warm, ready-to-buy customers for the moment inventory returns, rather than losing that demand entirely to a competitor in the meantime.

Redirect ad spend, don't just let it burn

Continuing to run acquisition campaigns toward an out-of-stock product wastes budget and damages the customer experience. Pausing or redirecting spend toward available products during a stockout protects both budget and brand perception.
