How to Know If Your Marketing Is Actually Working

Globewick Team Sep 23, 2026 1 min read

A marketing function can look busy — campaigns launching, content publishing, reports circulating — without any of it clearly connecting back to whether the business is actually growing because of it.

Tie activity back to a business outcome

Impressions, likes, and even leads are intermediate metrics. The real test is whether marketing activity is measurably connected to revenue, customer acquisition, or retention — not just producing activity for its own sake.

Separate leading and lagging indicators

Some metrics move quickly and predict future results; others lag behind and confirm what already happened. Judging short-term marketing efforts against long-term lagging metrics — or vice versa — leads to premature conclusions in either direction.

Be honest about attribution limitations

No measurement system is perfect, and pretending otherwise leads to false confidence in numbers that are really just directional. The goal is a reasonably accurate picture, not a false sense of precision.
